Unprecedented: Mexico Carried Out a Massive Extradition of 29 Drug Traffickers to the United States
The 29 people were imprisoned in different prisons in Mexico and were wanted by United States authorities.
The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Attorney General's Office reported that today a total of 29 prisoners were extradited to the United States.
Among the extradited prisoners is the legendary Mexican drug trafficker, Rafael Caro Quintero.
“The custody, transfer, and formal handover of these individuals are carried out under institutional protocols with due respect for their essential rights.
In accordance with our Constitution and the National Security Law and at the request of the United States Department of Justice”
stated an official communiqué.

"This action is part of the efforts of coordination, cooperation, and bilateral reciprocity, within the framework of respect for the sovereignty of both nations": the document emphasized.
Federal sources detailed that among the criminals extradited to the United States are Rafael Caro Quintero, founder of the defunct Guadalajara Cartel.

In addition to the brothers Miguel Ángel and Óscar Omar Treviño Morales, known as Z-40 and Z-42 respectively. They are founders of the Los Zetas Cartel, characterized by their violence.
The announcement comes as the head of the FGR, Alejandro Gertz Manero, and the Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, are in Washington D.C.
The extradition would be part of the negotiations with the U.S. Government to halt the imposition of tariffs on Mexican products proposed by President Donald Trump.

Trump said today from the Oval Office that he is not seeing progress in the fight against drugs by Mexico and Canada.
"They are not doing enough to consider not imposing tariffs of 25 percent against both North American neighbors next week."
When asked if he has detected progress to exempt Mexico and Canada from the tariff increase, he replied that "not at all, not in drugs." However, there have been improvements regarding irregular border crossings.
Who is Rafael Caro Quintero?
Rafael Caro Quintero is considered one of the most notorious drug trafficking leaders in Mexico's history. He is a co-founder of the defunct Guadalajara Cartel, a criminal group that marked the modern era of organized crime in the country.
Known as the "Narco of Narcos," he was one of the main targets of the U.S. Government since the 1980s.

The criminal was linked as the mastermind behind the kidnapping, torture, and murder of DEA agent Enrique 'Kiki Camarena. It is worth remembering that this homicide triggered a diplomatic crisis between Mexico and the U.S.
He was arrested in 1985 and sentenced to 40 years in prison, but in 2013 he obtained his release due to a judicial ruling that was later overturned.
In July 2022, he was captured again by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) in Choix, Sinaloa. Since then, he fought against his extradition to the United States until today.
