The Mexican automotive sector at risk: Donald Trump threatens with tariffs.
The US would impose tariffs on the auto industry because its production in Mexico takes away job opportunities from the US.
The threat of tariffs from the United States against Mexican products remains in effect. This time, the focus is on the automotive sector.
Former President Donald Trump warned that he will impose tariffs on vehicles manufactured in Mexico if they enter U.S. territory. He justified the measure by arguing that production in Mexico harms U.S. automotive workers.

Trump insists on protecting the U.S. industry
In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that Mexico has expanded its automotive production with the aim of selling cars in the U.S. However, he won't allow it.
"In Mexico, they are building plants everywhere to manufacture cars that they will sell in the United States. I say: 'No way.' We are going to impose big tariffs on those cars. I don't want them", he declared.
Trump recalled that he received great support from businessmen, employees, and unions in the automotive sector upon his arrival at the White House. Now he seeks to return the favor with this policy.
He also points to Canada for automotive competition
Trump not only lashed out against Mexico but also against Canada. He claimed that the country "stole" the U.S. automotive industry.
"Canada has a very large automotive industry. They stole it from us because our people fell asleep at the wheel", he accused.
According to Trump, his administration could impose tariffs between 50% and 100% on cars manufactured in Canada. For Mexico, he hasn't given exact figures yet.
Impact on trade and possible repercussions
Trump promised during his campaign to bring automotive production back to the U.S. The measure hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but it is causing concern in the industry.
The tariffs on steel and aluminum he imposed in the past have already impacted prices and markets. Now, a similar policy on cars could affect trade relations with Mexico and Canada.
The automotive sector is awaiting clarity in the coming days. Meanwhile, uncertainty about bilateral trade with the U.S. continues to rise.
