Violence Against Men Is Increasing in the State of Mexico

Aggressions against men have increased in Edomex, but stigma and lack of support prevent them from reporting.

A growing and underreported problem

Violence against men in the State of Mexico has been on the rise, according to recent data from the foundation "¿Y los hombres qué?". Despite its severity, few victims report it due to the lack of adequate mechanisms and social stigma.

Violence and assaults against men in the State of Mexico

Research reveals that homicides, injuries, and psychological assaults against men have increased in recent years. In 2024 alone, more than 10,000 reports of male gender violence were filed in Edomex.

One of the biggest problems is that men rarely report the violence they suffer. Many victims fear being ridiculed or ignored by the authorities.

30% of cases of violence against men in the State of Mexico occur within the home. Often, the assaults are psychological or physical and are exacerbated by the lack of institutional support.

Alarming figures of homicides and psychological violence

The State of Mexico leads the statistics of male homicides nationwide. In 2024, more than 3,500 murders were recorded, surpassing entities like Guanajuato and Michoacán.

Moreover, aggression toward men is not only physical; psychological abuse, workplace harassment, and humiliation in family or work environments severely affect their well-being.

Challenges in protecting victims

One of the main obstacles to addressing this issue is the perception that men must be strong and not victims. This prejudice contributes to the invisibility of cases.

Unlike violence against women, there are very few shelters or programs specialized in assisting men in situations of violence, leaving them without protection options.

Impunity and lack of attention to male violence

Recently, there have been cases of men assaulted by their partners, harassed at work, and victims of extortion who have not received justice. Most remain in impunity. Despite the increase in cases, the security and justice institutions of Edomex have not implemented clear strategies to protect men who suffer violence.

Need for inclusive public policies

Prevention and attention programs for violence are almost exclusively focused on women, leaving out the male issue. A more equitable vision is needed. Human rights specialists warn that it is urgent to reform the legal framework and create care protocols for men who suffer violence, ensuring access to justice.

How to report violence against men in Edomex?

Men who suffer violence can go to the State of Mexico's General Prosecutor's Office, call 911, or seek legal advice. However, many do not do so out of fear or distrust.
