Increase in Crime in Estado De México Worries Citizens and Authorities

The State of Mexico recorded nearly 30,000 crimes in one month, positioning itself as the entity with the most crime cases.

The situation has caused growing concern among the population, who perceive a lack of effective action from the authorities.

Increase in property crimes

Despite a decrease in homicides and kidnappings, home burglaries, public transportation thefts, and vehicle thefts have been on the rise.

According to official figures, car theft increased by 12% compared to the same period last year. Ecatepec, Nezahualcóyotl, and Naucalpan are the most affected municipalities, where citizens have opted to install private security systems to protect their assets due to the lack of governmental response.

Violence in assaults and organized crime

The use of violence in robberies has increased by 15%. Most cases occur in public transportation, where criminals operate with firearms. Passengers are stripped of cell phones, money, and personal belongings, and often, physical and psychological assaults are part of the crime.

Authorities have also identified a resurgence in the activity of criminal groups, leading to more confrontations with law enforcement. Murders due to disputes between criminal cells have also been on the rise, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear in various areas of the state.

Cargo theft, a growing problem

The State of Mexico is the national leader in cargo truck theft, with a 20% increase in recent months. This crime affects the economy and road safety.

The main affected routes are the Mexico-Querétaro, Mexico-Puebla, and the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense. Transport companies have demanded greater protection, as many have reported million-dollar losses due to merchandise theft.

Drivers and sector workers have reported that criminals act with total impunity, and there have even been reports of organized gangs using advanced technology to intercept and track trucks in real-time.

Government and citizen reactions

Governor Delfina Gómez has announced a reinforcement of police operations and coordination with the National Guard to curb the crime wave. However, the measures have been insufficient and ineffective, according to activists and citizens' complaints.

Meanwhile, residents of conflict zones report that assaults remain frequent and that the perception of insecurity has increased considerably. Complaints on social media are constant, with videos and testimonies evidencing the lack of surveillance and the impunity with which criminals operate.

The government of the State of Mexico has been unable to contain the crime wave, and the situation has gotten out of hand, according to security experts and citizen complaints. Citizens have begun to organize into self-defense groups, fed up with the inefficiency of the authorities.

Measures to curb crime

The government of the State of Mexico has implemented security strategies, such as the use of drones and surveillance cameras at strategic points. However, these measures have not deterred criminals, who continue to operate with total impunity.

The presence of the Attorney General's Office has also been strengthened in municipalities with high crime rates, seeking faster and more efficient investigations. However, judicial processes remain slow, and many cases go unpunished due to corruption within the institutions.
