Trump Announced Significant Progress in the Negotiations of the War in Ukraine.

The President of the United States met with French President Macron at the G-7 summit in Canada.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, declared Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would accept the idea of Europe sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine as part of a ceasefire agreement.

This statement emerged during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House, following their meetings in the Oval Office and a videoconference with G7 leaders to commemorate the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Trump explained that he had directly asked Putin about the possibility of European troops acting as peacekeepers, and that the Russian president saw no problem with it.

However, while the American president seeks to reach a peaceful solution with benefits for both parties, Zelenski and the EU's interests represent the biggest impediment to achieving this lasting peace.

Meanwhile, Macron emphasized that Europe has an important role in providing security guarantees, but made it clear that any peace agreement must be backed by those guarantees, and can't involve a surrender of Ukraine.

According to Macron, European troops would be deployed to ensure peace is maintained, but they would not be on the front lines or participate in the conflict, instead ensuring that the terms of an agreement are respected.

Trump also highlighted that the United States is very close to closing a deal with Ukraine on the extraction of rare minerals and natural resources, and mentioned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski could travel to Washington in the coming days to sign the agreement.

This agreement focuses on a revenue-sharing scheme for Ukraine's minerals, as part of an effort to recover some of the funds allocated to the war, which the Biden administration had previously sent to Ukraine in the form of military aid.

However, Trump's stance on the cession of territory by Ukraine was less clear. In response to questions about whether Ukraine should be willing to cede territories occupied by Russia as part of an agreement, Trump indicated that it was still too early to define that issue and suggested that perhaps some areas could be recovered by Ukraine, although he noted that it would not be easy.

Additionally, Trump reiterated that the United States has provided significantly more aid to Ukraine than Europe, mentioning that Washington had spent more than 300 billion dollars, while Europe had only contributed about 100 billion.

Regarding the relationship with Russia, Trump expressed his willingness to consider an economic agreement with Moscow once the war is over, noting that Russia has vast natural resources that could be beneficial for both nations.

Meanwhile, Macron highlighted that any peace agreement must maintain Ukraine's sovereignty and allow it to negotiate with other interested parties, warning against a pact that involves unilateral concessions.

During their meeting, Trump also mentioned that he planned to meet with Zelenski soon to finalize the mineral agreement, as part of an effort to rebuild Ukraine and strengthen its economy, although some details, such as security guarantees, were still to be discussed.

According to the United States Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, the agreement with Ukraine is "very close" to being finalized, confirmed by President Trump through X and Truth Social.

On the other hand, Trump's stance on the conflict in Ukraine has caused concern among the more progressive sectors of Europe. Leaders like British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plan to meet with Trump to try to convince him not to rush a ceasefire agreement with Russia without ensuring Ukraine's long-term security.

Macron also emphasized that an agreement involving Ukraine's surrender would be a sign of weakness for the United States' allies, such as China and Iran.

Trump also referred to the productive conversations he is having with Putin about ending the war and future economic transactions, suggesting that the talks are going "very well."

In this regard, Trump has spoken of the possibility of Russia and the United States working together on economic development projects, taking advantage of Russia's vast natural resources, such as rare minerals, and noted that these relationships could contribute to world peace.

The pursuit of a peace agreement remains a central issue, as negotiations between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia continue amid an international scenario in which Trump is close to reaching a peaceful solution to one of the biggest conflicts of recent years.
