Due to the Prisoner Escapes, Jorge Macri Fired Waldo Wolff From the Ministry of Security.

However, Macri will define Wolff's role in the electoral campaign, where his name is mentioned as a possible candidate.

The head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, made the decision to dismiss Waldo Wolff from the Ministry of Security of Buenos Aires and appoint Horacio Giménez, former head of the Metropolitan Police, in his place.

This change occurs in the midst of the electoral campaign and after Wolff's disastrous and controversial management, marked by the large number of prisoner escapes since Macri's assumption.

According to Infobae, the Buenos Aires leader plans to meet with Wolff this afternoon to finalize the details of his departure and define his role in the campaign, where his name is mentioned as a possible candidate.

In addition to this move, this outlet confirmed that Macri also decided to appoint Hernán Lombardi as Minister of Economic Development, a position that had been vacant after the dismissal of Roberto García Moritán.

Although sources from the City Government have neither confirmed nor denied these appointments, both have the support of Mauricio Macri. Both Giménez and Lombardi were part of the PRO leader's team during his tenure as head of Government and have maintained their connection with the former president over time.

As for Giménez, he is a former chief of the Metropolitan Police, who came from the Federal Police in the context of the transfer of powers from the Nation to the City for the formation of the Buenos Aires force, when Mauricio Macri was head of Government.

He was in charge of the Metropolitan Police during a period marked by the repression at the Borda Hospital in 2013, an episode that led to an oral trial in which he was charged along with other officials. Finally, in 2016 he was acquitted.

Giménez assumed as chief of the Metropolitan Police in the context of the creation of said force in 2008, as part of a policy of decentralizing security in the City of Buenos Aires. During his administration, the Minister of Security was Guillermo Montenegro, current mayor of Mar del Plata, who held that position between 2007 and 2015.

Waldo Wolff joined the Buenos Aires Cabinet in the last year of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta's term, assuming a communication role to defend the management of the City Government.

Since entering politics, Wolff has always been active in the PRO and cultivated a close relationship with Jorge Macri, which could even be described as a friendship. Despite the public tension caused by the prisoner escapes and the increase in insecurity, the head of the Buenos Aires Government provided his support to Wolff and, for now, their relationship remains cordial.

The legislative elections

In this context, Jorge Macri is focused on the electoral campaign in the City of Buenos Aires, where the PRO faces the challenge of stopping the advance of La Libertad Avanza, which seeks to take away the leadership of Macrismo in the capital.

The head of the Buenos Aires Government decided that the voting in the City will take place on May 18, which also brings forward the closing of candidate lists to March 29, that is, in just 26 days.

With the advice of Antoni Gutiérrez Rubí, the Catalan consultant who previously worked with Sergio Massa and other Kirchnerist leaders, Macri is already planning the electoral strategy for the City. Waldo Wolff is mentioned as one of the possible candidates for legislator or deputy for the Buenos Aires district.

In any case, at the Uspallata headquarters, it is suggested that Wolff will take on an active role in the campaign, serving as a spokesperson to defend the PRO's management and engage in debate with the libertarians and Buenos Aires Peronism.

The PRO faces a challenging election, as on May 18, half of the 60 seats in the Legislature will be at stake.

Jorge Macri needs to form a majority bloc that ensures governability and seeks to win the election to show political strength against the push of La Libertad Avanza.

In these days, his political team is accelerating negotiations with Larretismo and with historical allies of the Buenos Aires government, such as the UCR and the Civic Coalition, to avoid a fragmentation of the electorate that would harm the PRO.
