Macri Administration: in Just Two Days, Criminals Attacked Two Media Outlets

Citizens, like journalists, see how the City becomes a free zone for criminals

Under the management of Buenos Aires City Government head, Jorge Macri, insecurity in Buenos Aires City seems to be steadily advancing, this time directly affecting media workers, who, in the midst of their daily tasks, find themselves exposed to the growing crime.

On Thursday morning, in the heart of Palermo, a TN cameraman, Adrián Pomito, was the victim of a robbery while covering a story at the corner of Humboldt and Cabrera, an area of the city that is gradually becoming a point of frequent criminal activity.

According to Pomito's account to TN, the robbery occurred at 07:09, when he was facing away, checking his mobile phone to prepare for the live broadcast. "I was raising the signal to connect us, I was facing away, I had my phone open," he explained.

"I was looking toward the camera, one came from behind, took my phone, and got on the motorcycle, which was almost waiting for him, with another, and they fled," recounted the cameraman, who didn't even have time to realize the situation.

Pomito added that the block was deserted and that, after the robbery, he tried to run a few meters after the criminals, without success. In a scenario as common as it is disconcerting in the City, the robbery happened in the blink of an eye, highlighting the vulnerability faced not only by citizens but also by those who fulfill the role of informing.

Meanwhile, the situation worsened when, a day later, Radio Rivadavia reporter, Valentina Berterretche, experienced an attempted robbery in Retiro. This time, the journalists' indignation was palpable.

Journalist Nacho Ortelli, visibly upset, lashed out at the City's Security Minister, Waldo Wolff, calling him "useless" due to the wave of criminal acts in the city.

"You're useless, Wolff, they say he selects interviews because he's afraid of questions. Let's see if he starts working and stops going around blaming others. Work..." expressed Ortelli, angry about the situation and criticizing the security management of Macri's city government.

Additionally, the reporter who suffered the attempted robbery revealed that there were no police officers at the scene of the incident, which is very crowded by locals: "There are no police officers, there was a patrol car with no one inside."

Macri and Wolff's management

The security management of Jorge Macri and Waldo Wolff is increasingly being challenged, not only due to the insecurity reigning in the streets of Buenos Aires but also because of the ineffectiveness of the policies implemented since they took office.

Since Macri and Wolff assumed their positions, crime has been continuously rising, and the escape of prisoners from Buenos Aires police stations has reached alarming levels.

Citizens, like journalists, are witnessing how the city is becoming a free zone for criminals, while those responsible for working on their security continue to provide no clear or effective responses.
