Nuevo León Approves 2025 Budget Amid Political Tensions
The state Congress allocates 152,164 million pesos, but disagreements persist over its distribution
After intense negotiations, the State Congress of Nuevo León approved the 2025 Expenditure Budget. The total allocation will be 152,164 million pesos, with an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous year.
The lack of agreements in previous years prevented the budgets for 2023 and 2024 from being finalized. This forced the process for 2025 to be accelerated, although differences between the ruling party and the opposition persisted.
One of the main points of conflict was the distribution of federal participations. Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda vetoed a decree that sought to raise them from 20% to 25%. This decision caused discontent among mayors and opposition legislators, who demanded more resources for the municipalities.
Where will the resources be invested?
The budget prioritizes key sectors such as security, health, education, and infrastructure. A significant investment will also be allocated to mobility, with the expansion of the metro to improve quality of life and strengthen economic development.
Another key point was the appointment of Javier Flores Saldívar as the new Attorney General of Justice of the state. This appointment was part of the agreement reached to unlock the budget discussion.
Reactions and perspectives
The governor celebrated the approval of the budget and the appointment of the attorney general, highlighting that they are important steps for institutional strengthening.
However, the frictions between the Executive and the Legislative show that the political climate remains tense. The correct application of the budget will depend on the collaboration between the different political forces.
Meanwhile, the citizens will be alert to ensure that the resources are used effectively and for the benefit of the state.
