Continued wave of violence in Culiacán: clashes and chaos shake the city
Homicides, kidnappings, collateral deaths, and terror, violence doesn't relent in Culiacan
In recent weeks, Culiacán, the capital of the state of Sinaloa, has experienced a concerning wave of violence that has severely affected its inhabitants.
From armed confrontations to homicides and disappearances, the city is immersed in an unprecedented security crisis.

Increase in violence
During the first two weeks of January 2025, 42 intentional homicides were recorded in Culiacán, representing 72% of the 60 homicides counted throughout the state during that period.
Additionally, armed attacks and fires were reported in at least fifteen homes and businesses of various types.
Impact on the civilian population
The violence has affected not only those involved in criminal activities but also innocent citizens.
On January 30, 2025, a family was the victim of an armed attack in the Paralelo 38 agricultural field. The incident occurred in the syndicate of Costa Rica, south of Culiacán, during a confrontation between criminal groups.
Geovanna, 34 years old, suffered arm injuries. Jaime, 24 years old, was shot in the pelvis. Meanwhile, their son Iván, 1 year and 7 months old, sustained a cheek injury.
Community reactions
The citizens, tired of the constant insecurity, have begun to protest against the local authorities.
Recent marches have demanded the resignation of Governor Rubén Rocha. Protesters hold him responsible for the lack of control over the violence in the state.
Although the governor has downplayed the protests, arguing that they are promoted by a minority, the reality is different. Insecurity remains one of the main concerns of the inhabitants of Culiacán.

Causes of the violence
Analysts explain that the recent violence is due to an internal struggle within the Sinaloa Cartel.
The capture of leaders like Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López has sparked a dispute for control of the organization. This conflict has led to clashes between rival factions, increasing violence in the region.
Government reply
The federal government has sent Omar García Harfuch, its security czar, to coordinate efforts in the region.
Despite the operations and arrests carried out, the violence persists. The population continues to demand effective solutions that guarantee their safety.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Culiacán, Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil, announced the inauguration of the fourteenth sports field in the city. He also committed to paving eleven more streets, although these actions seem insufficient in the face of the severe security crisis.
