Ine Publishes List of Candidates for the Judiciary Despite Senate's Errors

The 2025 Judicial Power election begins with irregularities and incomplete data

Mexico City, February 17, 2025. The General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) ordered the publication of the candidate lists for the 881 positions of the Judicial Branch to be elected in June 2025. However, the process is already marked by errors, omissions, and irregularities in the information provided by the Senate.

The INE also agreed to rectify the inconsistencies detected in the lists submitted by the Upper House, which highlights the lack of rigor in the process.

Errors and omissions in the candidate list

During the session on February 17, the INE determined that the lists must be published both in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) and in the INE gazette. However, the document contains multiple errors that will need to be corrected on the fly.

According to the electoral councilors, the failures include:

  • Incorrect data: Erroneous birth dates, inaccurate voter keys, and invalid CURPs.
  • Empty fields: More than 4,224 records lack essential information.
  • Lack of contact information: No emails or phone numbers in several cases.
  • Candidacies without a defined position: Some candidates appear on the list without specifying which position they seek.

Electoral councilor Dania Ravel warned about the seriousness of these inconsistencies. "In more than 4,224 candidate records, empty spaces were found. Without this information, the electoral authority can't verify the validity of the data," she noted.

INE blames the Senate

The president of the Temporary Commission for the Election of the Judicial Branch, Jorge Montaño Ventura, was clear in pointing out that the errors in the information are the responsibility of the Senate.

"The INE is not responsible for the information provided by the Senate. Our function is to receive the lists, not to correct the errors they send," he stated.

Despite this, Fernández Noroña and Claudia Sheinbaum have attempted to blame the INE for the failures in the process. Their stance seeks to divert attention from the legislative disorganization and the lack of rigor in the selection of candidates.

An electoral process plagued with irregularities

The extraordinary election will be held on June 1, 2025. On that day, the 881 positions of the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) will be defined. However, the process is already marked by the lack of transparency and deficiencies in the management of candidacies.

Paradoxically, this electoral process, promoted under the slogan "the people choose," turns out to be less democratic than promised. Improvisation and negligence have turned this election into a disaster foretold.
