Sheinbaum Stated That the King of Spain Offended Amlo and They Must Apologize.

According to Sheinbaum, the King of Spain also promoted a racist campaign against former President AMLO due to the letter.

Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she will insist Spain offer an apology to the country "for the genocide" against the Mexicas. This is in light of the celebration of the 500 years since the murder of Cuauhtémoc, the last independent tlatoani of Mexico-Tenochtitlan.

The president of Mexico reaffirmed the stance of the Government of Mexico regarding Spain. It concerns the need for Spain to apologize for the crimes committed during the conquest. Additionally, she accused the King of Spain of having offended former president López Obrador by not responding appropriately to the request sent in 2019.

"When President López Obrador requests forgiveness, he does so very respectfully in a personal letter addressed to the head of state. But instead of responding with diplomacy, they started a racist campaign against him and leaked part of the document," Sheinbaum asserted.

She recalled that the Spanish conquest was marked by atrocious acts such as the massacre of the Templo Mayor and the execution of Cuauhtémoc. These are events that "must be recognized and assumed with responsibility by the Spanish State."

She also asserted that the King of Spain's refusal to respond to the letter was not only a lack of respect toward López Obrador but "an offense to all of Mexico":

"When the president of Mexico is offended by another foreign state, we must be in solidarity with our country," she said.
