A brutal attack in the town of Villa Elisa, in the Buenos Aires district of La Plata, resulted in the death of a man and the arrest of the alleged murderer, who had been released by Kirchnerism during the pandemic.

The deceased victim tried to defend his 16-year-old stepdaughter, the striker's ex-girlfriend, after she was stabbed by him, who has a long criminal record.

The detainee is Matías Leonardo Palomeque, 31 years old, who, on Saturday morning, entered a house located on 429 Street, between 135 and 136, where the minor's family lived. Palomeque had a relationship with the teenager.

Although the striker accessed the house through the window, he had access to the property as he lives in a shack located behind the residence, according to police sources.

According to the reconstruction by the Buenos Aires Police, the argument in the young woman's house led to a stabbing in her left leg. Upon hearing her cries for help, her stepfather intervened immediately.

When the SAME ambulances arrived, the doctors confirmed that the victim had died almost immediately due to the injuries sustained.

Meanwhile, the teenager was taken to a local hospital. By Sunday afternoon, she had been discharged after doctors determined that her injuries were not life-threatening.

After the report, the Buenos Aires Police launched an operation in the provincial capital to find the fugitive. By order of prosecutor Juan Menuchi, head of UFI No. 6 of La Plata, the agents went to several places frequented by the suspect.

Finally, he was located on Saturday night when he was heading to a relative's house in the town of Melchor Romero. He was arrested and taken to the La Unión substation.

Prosecutor Menuchi summoned him to give a statement on Sunday morning, charging him with homicide and minor injuries. Palomeque refrained from declaring and will remain detained.

Released by Kirchnerism

Palomeque has extensive knowledge of prison life. His criminal record includes multiple arrests for theft and other serious crimes. According to court records, his criminal career began more than ten years ago, in 2013.

His first arrest occurred on January 3, 2013, when he was arrested for attempted aggravated robbery at a store in La Plata. He was quickly released as it was a minor offense.

A month later, on February 3 of the same year, he was arrested again for the same offense, leading to the intervention of the Guarantees Court No. 5 of La Plata.

In June 2013, the Justice granted him freedom, but his criminal behavior persisted. In November 2019, he was arrested again for aggravated robbery and remained detained in Penal Unit 18 of Gorina. However, during the pandemic, on November 13, 2020, the Criminal Execution Court No. 2 of La Plata granted him freedom.

Soon after, he was imprisoned again after a new sentence, and finally, on May 22, 2024, Palomeque regained his freedom after serving a sentence in Penal Unit 9 of La Plata.

In this case, the detainee could face sentences ranging from 8 years to life imprisonment just for the homicide. Additionally, his situation could worsen if he is also found guilty of the crime of injuries.
