Oscar 2025: Schedule of the Gala, Host, Favorites, and Complete List of Nominees

A comedian and writer from 'The Simpsons' will be the host of the Hollywood awards this Sunday, March 2.

The 97th edition of the Oscar Awards took place with the promise of a night full of great cinema, although without the same commercial impact as last year, when "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie" starred in a fierce competition. This year, the focus was on productions highlighted at international festivals, such as "Anora", "Conclave" and "The Brutalist", in addition to commercial and critical successes like  "Dune: Part Two" and "Wicked."

The ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. In Argentina, the live broadcast can be seen through TNT, with the red carpet starting at 8:00 PM and the main gala at 9:00 PM.

Conan O'Brien debuts as host

The comedian Conan O'Brien was chosen to host the gala, taking over from Jimmy Kimmel.O'Brien, known for his late-night career, in addition to his work as a writer on "The Simpsons" and "Saturday Night Live," stood out for his witty humor and charisma. His appointment was well received on social media, and producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan praised his ability to host live shows.

O'Brien himself, true to his style, joked: "America has been asking for it for a long time and it's finally going to happen: the Cheesy Chalupa Supreme is coming to Taco Bell. In other news, I'm going to host the Oscars."

The most nominated and favorite films

"Emilia Pérez" leads the nominations with 13 nods but has been the big disappointment. It is followed by "The Brutalist" and "Wicked" with ten each.  "Conclave" and "A Complete Unknown" stand out with eight nominations.

Among the favorites, "Anora," by Sean Baker, comes with an advantage after winning the Palme d'Or at Cannes and the Producers Guild (PGA), Directors Guild (DGA), and Writers Guild (WGA) awards. However, "Conclave," directed by Edward Berger, positioned itself as a solid alternative after winning the SAG Award and the BAFTA.

Although "The Brutalist" seemed the favorite a month ago, its strength diminished against the competition. Meanwhile, "Emilia Pérez" lost ground due to controversies surrounding its lead, Karla Sofía Gascón, and its director, Jacques Audiard.

Actresses and actors with the best chances of winning

Demi Moore, for her role in  "The Substance," emerged as the main candidate for best actress, especially after her victory at the SAG Awards.Mikey Madison, star of "Anora," and Fernanda Torres, winner of the Golden Globe for "I'm Still Here", also figured among the favorites.

In the best supporting actress category,  Zoe Saldaña is the one bringing satisfaction to the failed "Emilia Pérez."

Adrien Brody ("The Brutalist") and Timothée Chalamet ("A Complete Unknown") are starring in a fierce competition for the Oscar for best actor. Brody seeks his second statuette, while Chalamet aims to become the youngest male actor to win this award. Ralph Fiennes, with his performance in "Conclave," also remains in the running.

In the best supporting actor category, Kieran Culkin ("A Real Pain") stands out as the favorite, although Guy Pearce could surprise if "The Brutalist" regains momentum.
