Buterin Dismissed the Libra Case and Proposed Argentina as the Venue for a Crypto Event

The Russian-Canadian programr Vitalik Buterin, creator of Ethereum, referred to the current state of the crypto community in Argentina through the social network X. In his message, he highlighted the talent of Argentine developers and urged not to be discouraged by recent controversies.

Additionally, he proposed that Buenos Aires host Devconnect 2025, a global event of the Ethereum ecosystem that was last held in Istanbul.

Buterin's support after the $LIBRA crisis

Buterin quoted a message from a user identified as Fede's intern, who mentioned the $LIBRA crisis, the cryptocurrency that Javier Milei promoted on his networks and that suffered a collapse in its valuation. "The main thing I can say after the incident with $LIBRA is that I believe even more in Bitcoin and Ethereum than before. I'm sure that Argentines will play a crucial role in the global adoption of crypto. We are resilient," the user wrote.

In response, Buterin emphasized the potential of the Argentine crypto community.  "The Ethereum community in Argentina is full of amazing builders, who have already contributed to some of the most important programs in the ecosystem," he assured.

Education as a key to ecosystem growth

The creator of Ethereum argued that the current situation should not discourage technology blockchain enthusiasts. "The energy and determination to build on the current momentum and use crypto and other emerging technologies to create a prosperous society in the 21st century are real", he stated. He also highlighted the importance of training in the sector: "Recent news shouldn't be taken as a reason to give up, but as an example of why education is so important."

Devconnect 2025: Buenos Aires in the spotlight

In a second message, Buterin proposed that Devconnect, an event that brings together Ethereum developers from around the world, be held in Argentina in 2025. Among the criteria considered for the choice of venue, he mentioned:

• The quality of the local community.
• The accessibility for global developers, including the ease of obtaining visas.
• The availability of suitable spaces for conferences and activities.

The potential to generate a lasting impact in the institutional field and the development of Ethereum-based applications.

Buterin already visited Argentina in 2021 and 2022, participating in meetings with programrs and key figures of the crypto ecosystem. The possibility of Buenos Aires hosting Devconnect 2025 had been previously mentioned on social networks. Milei's rise to power, with his pro-market discourse and rejection of central banks, caused expectations about a greater opening of the country to the crypto world. Buterin closed his message by directly tagging Milei's account on X: @JMilei.

The Argentine president replied enthusiastically: "Thank you very much, Vitalik Buterin", he tweeted, adding: "It would be an honor for Argentina to host Devconnect. I agree that it would be a great opportunity for our country."

Buterin and his vision of Argentina

Buterin's name had already appeared in the discussion about $LIBRA. Although he avoided referring directly to the memecoin, his response to Fede's intern was interpreted as an attempt to downplay the incident and reaffirm his confidence in the Argentine crypto community.  "I remain very optimistic about the contribution and role of Latin America in this space," he expressed.

Milei and Buterin have never met in person, although the developer is one of the most influential figures in the crypto world.

In December 2024, Buterin praised Milei's economic policy and highlighted the stability of the Argentine peso. "ARS/USD is exactly at the same level as a year ago. An impressive change for a currency that seemed headed toward unstoppable hyperinflation," he posted on X.  He also highlighted the slowdown in inflation, a topic that caused debate among analysts and economists.

Milei's economic measures, which included fiscal adjustment and the accumulation of international reserves, helped the official exchange rate not register significant variations in the previous months. In that context, the free dollar showed minor fluctuations, closing around $1,080 in recent days, while the exchange gap narrowed.

The expectation around the possible choice of Buenos Aires as the venue for Devconnect 2025 continues to grow on social networks. The final decision on the event's venue will depend on various factors, although Buterin's mention on X caused a wide debate in the crypto community.
