An Argentine woman was hospitalized in Peru and her family will raffle a car to cover the expense.

The expenses amount to 40 thousand dollars, including hospitalization and multiple surgical interventions.

A young Argentine woman is fighting for her life in Peru after suffering a severe liver condition, and her family organized a charity raffle to cover the medical costs, which amount to 40 thousand dollars, including hospitalization and multiple surgeries.

This sad news once again highlights the urgent need to reform the healthcare system in Argentina since, while foreigners receive all kinds of free medical care in our country, the same doesn't happen in neighboring countries, where numerous Argentines have died due to being unable to cover their medical expenses.

This recent case involves Belén Flores, 31 years old, originally from Córdoba capital, who moved to Lima two years ago with her boyfriend. On January 7, her ordeal began with intense abdominal pain that led her to seek medical attention, where an ultrasound revealed a concerning diagnosis: she had a subcapsular hematoma in the liver.

This condition occurs when blood accumulates beneath the capsule of an organ, and the initially detected hematoma was 800 cubic centimeters in size. Days later, the size grew to one and a half liters, raising alarms: the risk of rupture was high and could be fatal. The doctors at Auna clinic decided to operate on Belén immediately.

However, throughout the treatment, new complications arose. The blood accumulation required several interventions. "The idea was for the hematoma to be reabsorbed, but in one of the operations, it finally burst. It was a miracle because the risk of bleeding out was very high, but it didn't happen," explained Agustina, Belén's sister, in an interview with TN.

The young woman remains in intensive care, sedated, and on mechanical respiratory support. "Now she is stable, but having had her abdomen open for a month, with a 25 by 17-centimeter cut, it was very difficult to close the abdominal wall. Even today, it is not completely closed and she will need another surgery," added Agustina. She also announced that in the coming hours, Belén will be transferred to another hospital.

The multiple interventions caused a debt in dollars that the family can't cover. Although Belén has medical insurance, the procedures performed exceeded her annual coverage limit, resulting in a significant excess.

To cover the costs, the family decided to organize a charity raffle in which they will raffle off the family car: a white 2017 Fiat Palio. Each ticket is priced at 30 thousand pesos. The raffle will take place on March 11, under the supervision of a notary, according to the family.
