In a new escape was recorded in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA). Six prisoners managed to escape from the 3A police station, located in the neighborhood of Balvanera, during the early hours of this Tuesday.
The incident caused alarm and prompted an urgent search operation for the escapees.

The escape at the 3A police station in Balvanera
The incident took place at the 3A Section, on Lavalle Street at 2600, around 4 in the morning. This is not the first time an escape has been recorded at this police station. In April 2024, two detainees also managed to escape from this same place.
The six inmates who escaped are: Villalobo, Martín Alfredo Maldonado, Rojas Solís, Díaz Contreras, all of Chilean nationality, and Matías Álvarez, of Argentine nationality.
The prisoners were seen running through Viamonte and Larrea streets.

A collapsed penitentiary system: escapes are repeated
This new episode adds to a series of escapes that have been occurring since Jorge Macri's assumption as head of the Buenos Aires government.
Since 2023, at least 66 escapes of detainees have been recorded in Buenos Aires police stations and detention centers, reflecting a serious crisis in the city's security system.

The escape, a recurring problem
So far in 2025, at least three escapes have already occurred, with this being the third. On February 10, six prisoners escaped, while on February 16, another inmate managed to evade custody. The number of incidents has been increasing, with 49 documented escapes in 2024.
One of the main factors behind these escapes is overcrowding in the city's police stations. The police stations have had to handle an excessive load of prisoners due to the lack of adequate infrastructure, which has created conditions for evasion.

Illegal markets within the penitentiary system
Corruption also plays an essential role in this crisis. Recent reports indicate the existence of illegal markets within the penitentiary system. Some police officers sell basic items to inmates and, in some cases, facilitate escapes in exchange for payments.
