Pedro Haces doesn't have a 'hamster tail': ties to drug trafficking and criminal record
Pedro Haces, the union leader and member of Morena, has an extensive criminal record and ties to drug cartels.
The Morena member Pedro Haces, a union leader and former PRI member, is in the eye of the storm. On February 10, 2025, a luxurious ranch of his ownership came to light, raising questions about its origin.
In the absence of a clear explanation, the union leader merely stated: "We all have skeletons in our closet, but mine is small, it's a hamster's tail." With this, he suggested that everyone in politics steals. However, he assured that his case was minor.
But the facts show otherwise. Pedro Haces doesn't steal a little. His criminal record includes everything from illegal possession of weapons to ties with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Imprisonment for possession of weapons and vehicle theft
A file from the Attorney General's Office(CRV/114/98) reveals that Pedro Haces was arrested in March 1998. He faced charges for theft and possession of prohibited weapons.
He obtained his freedom on bail, which allowed him to continue his process in freedom. The complaint file mentions that he had an investigation for federal crimes.

Despite these antecedents, Pedro Haces has been at the helm of the National Workers Union. In theory, such organizations should be led by people without a criminal record.
Hired companies to clean his image
Another part of his "hamster's tail" includes hiring the firm Eliminalia for 110,000 euros. His goal was to erase negative information about him in the media.
Eliminalia is a Spanish company specialized in cataloging news as false. According to an investigation by the newspaper El País, this company has received large sums of money in the last decade to improve the image of questioned politicians.
One of the media pressured by Eliminalia was SinEmbargo.mx. According to El País, the company contacted the hosting firm where SinEmbargo.mx is hosted to force the removal of critical articles about Haces.
Ties with the Sinaloa Cartel and the Beltrán Leyva
This is, without a doubt, the largest part of his "hamster's tail." According to information corroborated by witnesses, Pedro Haces has maintained ties with the Sinaloa Cartel for decades.
He is identified as an operator and frontman for the Beltrán Leyva brothers. This information was confirmed by a direct witness named Celeste.
Celeste, a former romantic partner of Arturo Beltrán Leyva, stated having seen Pedro Haces in meetings with the capo. Investigative journalist Anabel Hernández also points out that Haces was an intermediary in the criminal businesses of the Beltrán Leyva.

Additionally, he met with Clara Laborín, wife of Héctor Beltrán Leyva. She managed the cartel's businesses while her husband was in prison.
Despite the testimonies and properties of dubious origin, Pedro Haces hasn't been investigated by the government.
Relationship with Javier Duarte: received 30 million pesos
In May 2016, media revealed a conversation between the former governor of Oaxaca, José Murat, and the now imprisoned Javier Duarte.
In the call, Murat mentioned "our friend Pedro Haces," to whom he owed 30 million pesos. Duarte replied that he already had the money ready to pay him. That money came from the Seguro Popular.

The amount was allegedly deposited to the company Servicios Integrales de Seguridad, Limpieza y Mantenimiento, S.A. de C.V. (SEGLIM). This company belongs to Pedro Haces, who is currently a senator of Morena and a union leader.
A criminal record without consequences
With this extensive criminal history and ties to drug trafficking, it is evident that Pedro Haces doesn't have a "hamster's tail."
His trajectory shows a criminal past that has served him to accumulate wealth and power in Mexican politics.
So far, he hasn't been investigated.
