Ecuador Resumes Electricity Exports to Colombia
The Government attributes the exports to thermal recovery, Toachi Pilatón, and better reservoir management.
The Government of El Nuevo Ecuador announced the resumption of electricity exports to Colombia, after implementing a series of strategic measures to strengthen the National Electric System.
Investment in the recovery and maintenance of thermal power plants, the commissioning of Toachi Pilatón after 14 years of abandonment, and the optimization of reservoirs have allowed the country to generate energy surpluses again.

Among the implemented actions, the incorporation of more than 700 MW into the system thanks to the rehabilitation of thermal power plants and the operation of Toachi Pilatón with 254 MW stands out.
Additionally, floating generation solutions have been added, and strategic plans for efficient energy management have been applied.
The correct administration of the reservoirs has been key in this process. On February 18, the Mazar reservoir reached 2154 meters above sea level, surpassing its usual maximum level.
This management has allowed the optimization of the main hydroelectric plants' operability, ensuring internal supply and enabling the sale of electricity surpluses to Colombia through the existing commercial mechanism between both countries.

From the National Electricity Operator (CENACE), it has been confirmed that electricity exports do not compromise national reserves.
With this strategy, Ecuador reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the energy system and the sustainable generation of electricity, once again consolidating itself as a reliable provider in the region.
