Trump Will Accelerate the Investigation Into Possible Fraud in Us Aid to Ukraine

This happens after Trump and Zelenski had a meeting marked by strong disagreements at the White House.

After the heated discussion this Friday in the Oval Office between the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, and President Donald Trump, Washington will accelerate efforts to investigate possible cases of waste, fraud, and misuse of U.S. aid to Ukraine, according to a senior U.S. official.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, indicated that the magnate Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency had already begun an investigation into potential irregularities in the significant economic and security assistance funds granted to Ukraine, but now that process will intensify.

"They are already finding problems," the official mentioned, without offering further details, when asked by Reuters.

Previously, in a tense meeting, Trump expressed to Zelensky that Ukraine will have to make "concessions" in a truce with Moscow, while the Ukrainian leader reaffirmed that they should not yield to the "murderer" President of Russia.

During a meeting marked by strong disagreements at the White House, Trump and Vice President JD Vance reproached Zelensky, which led to the Ukrainian leader leaving without signing the minerals agreement that had been negotiated for weeks.

In an exchange of strong statements, Trump and Vance accused Zelensky of not valuing U.S. support enough and acting with "disrespect" by defending his stance to the press.

Their comments highlighted the growing differences within the U.S. leadership regarding the conflict in Ukraine, in a scenario where Washington's financial and military support remains a key axis of foreign policy.

Trump's message

Minutes after Zelensky's departure, President Trump released a statement on his official Truth Social account: "Today we had a very significant meeting at the White House. Much was learned that could never be understood without a conversation under such fire and pressure".

"It's amazing what emerges from emotion, and I've determined that President Zelensky is not ready for peace if the United States is involved, because he feels that our involvement gives him a great advantage in negotiations," he added.

"I don't want advantages, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its beloved Oval Office. He may return when he is ready for Peace," the president concluded.
