Princess Leonor begins her journey through America with a warm welcome in Brazil

The daughter of the King of Spain is undergoing her training in the navy aboard a training ship that arrived in America

On February 14,  after three weeks at sea, Princess Leonor arrived in Salvador de Bahía, Brazil. The heir to the throne and her crew from the Juan Sebastián de Elcano disembarked early, marking the beginning of a series of international stops on her training voyage as a midshipman. This stage was significant, as Leonor would perform representative functions for the first time on the American continent.

During her stay in Brazil, Leonor and her 75 companions were welcomed by an orchestra and the Spanish ambassador in Brazil, Mar Fernández-Palacios. After this reception, Leonor will participate in a lunch and reception aboard the Juan Sebastián de Elcano along with the prefect and the governor of the state of Salvador de Bahía. This ceremony is similar to the one held in the Canary Islands during the crew's first stopover.

Additionally, a city tour was scheduled, a floral offering to those fallen in combat, and an event to deliver a restored copy of the painting "Siege and Enterprise of Salvador de Bahía." This delivery commemorates the 400th anniversary of the city's recovery from the Dutch by the Spanish-Portuguese fleet. She will also participate in a historical seminar in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute and the Geographic and Historical Institute of Bahía, which several officers from the Juan Sebastián de Elcano will attend, possibly with Leonor's presence.

The princess's stay in Salvador de Bahía will extend until February 19, when they will set sail for Montevideo, Uruguay. This is the first stop on a tour of eight countries on the American continent, which will include Chile, Peru, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and will culminate in New York at the beginning of June.

Leonor's journey follows family tradition, as her father, King Felipe VI, undertook a similar voyage 38 years ago, although with some differences, such as the tourist visits he enjoyed in Rio de Janeiro.
