A Buenos Aires Police Officer Shot Dead Two Criminals Aged 14 and 18 Who Assaulted Him.
What's striking about this episode is that the thieves were stealing just a few meters (a few feet) from their own homes.
A 23-year-old Bonaerense Police officer, who was off duty working additional jobs as a delivery person, engaged in a shootout with two violent criminals who attempted to steal his motorcycle in Banfield, in the southern area of the Conurbano.
The officer shot and killed both assailants, aged 14 and 18, in an incident that highlights the need for security personnel to seek extra income and the issue of unaccountable minors who commit crimes knowing that they won't go to jail.
The striking aspect of this episode is that the thieves acted just a few meters from their own homes. In particular, the 14-year-old lived on the same corner where the attempted robbery occurred, at the intersection of Estrada and Godoy Cruz, in western Banfield. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old resided just 700 meters from the scene, indicating that they often committed crimes in their own neighborhood.
The incident took place on Friday when the police officer arrived on his motorcycle at an address indicated in a delivery app to deliver an order.
Upon reaching the corner of Estrada and Godoy Cruz, two individuals intercepted him and threatened him with a firearm. In response, the officer, dressed in civilian clothes, got off the vehicle and stepped back a few paces, according to police sources.
"He identified himself as Police and, with his weapon, aimed at the suspects who, far from complying, continued to aim at him. In response, he fired three shots," detailed sources of the case.
At the scene, the older striker, identified as Federico Naim Jalil, 18 years old, died after receiving a shot to the head. Meanwhile, the 14-year-old criminal, Samir Sebastián Carballo, was rushed to Gandulfo Hospital but arrived without vital signs due to a gunshot wound to the chest.
According to police information, a plastic replica firearm, similar to a Glock, was found at the scene of the confrontation.
The case is being investigated by prosecutor Jorge Griecco from the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) No. 8 of Lomas de Zamora, specializing in Institutional Violence. The case was classified as attempted aggravated robbery and homicide in legitimate defense.
The prosecutor did not take any action against the involved officer, although he ordered the seizure of his service weapon for examination. Meanwhile, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security also did not impose any sanctions or measures against the police officer.
