Former Pn Leaders Sign Their Resignation Letter From the Party to Join Ppl

Deeply dissatisfied with the handling of the match and its adherence to globalism, they decide to fight for freedom.

In a move that has resonated within the Uruguayan political ecosystem, right-wing leaders Leonardo Franco and Stephanie Magliano announced their resignation from Partido Nacional to join Plataforma Por La Libertad. This change of affiliation was formalized through a letter addressed to the Honorable Board of Partido Nacional, dated February 14, 2025.

In their letter, Franco and Magliano, prominent figures of the Unión Blanca Republicana group, expressed their discontent with the current direction of Partido Nacional. According to them, the party has deviated its ideological course toward what they consider a complacency with "leftist progressive ideas," thus betraying its traditional principles and the historical identity it once defended.

The leaders argue that Partido Nacional no longer represents or defends the conservative values and freedom that their group promotes.

Franco and Magliano claim to have been silenced, persecuted, and harassed for standing firm in their convictions within the party, for example, being pressured by the party's leadership when, for instance, they opposed the party's favorable stance toward the LGBT lobby.

They maintain that the party has ceased to be a space of representation for an authentic right-wing, prioritizing external agendas over the essential principles that define Partido Nacional.

toward Plataforma Por La Libertad (PPL)

The decision to join Plataforma Por La Libertad indicates a desire to find a political space more aligned with their ideals of freedom.

According to La Derecha Diario, Magliano and Franco play an important role within the structure of PPL, led by the liberal leader and president of the association of liberals of Uruguay, Fernando Doti Tori.

According to sources within PPL confirmed to La Derecha Diario, the political formation, with just a month of existence, already has around 1000 affiliates and is on the way to formalizing before the Electoral Court, once the current electoral cycle closes, which doesn't allow new entries until June.

The resignation of Franco and Magliano marks a significant moment in Uruguayan politics, reflecting internal tensions within traditional parties and the desire of some groups for a stronger representation of freedom ideas.
