Asinfa Submits a Request to the Un for the Defense of Human Rights in Uruguay

The left's hijacked justice operates with privileges and falsehoods

The International Association of Relatives and Friends for Justice and Human Rights in Uruguay (ASINFA) has taken a significant step in its fight to ensure transparency and respect for essential rights in Uruguay.

In an official statement issued this Tuesday, the organization announced that it has submitted a formal request to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, led by Volker Türk, and to various UN Special Rapporteurs, with the aim of investigating alleged human rights violations and monitoring the compliance with due process in the South American country.

ASINFA's request focuses on what the organization describes as structural irregularities in the Uruguayan judicial system, particularly in cases related to crimes against humanity.

Among the recipients of this petition are key figures of the UN Special Procedures, such as Isha Dyfan, Chair of the Coordination Committee of Special Procedures; Priya Gopalan, from the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention; Margaret Satterthwaite, Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers; and Bernard Duhaime, Special Rapporteur on the Promotion of Truth, Justice, Reparation, and Guarantees of Non-Recurrence, among others.

This move responds to more than ten documented complaints by ASINFA between April 2023 and December 2024, which have been submitted to various UN bodies. According to the statement, these complaints highlight issues such as the lack of judicial independence, the use of questionable testimonies, and the absence of guarantees in certain legal processes, creating a climate of "legal uncertainty" that affects the rights of the accused.

ASINFA expresses a dual stance in its statement: on one hand, a deep concern about the shortcomings observed in the Uruguayan justice system; on the other, a renewed hope that the intervention of the international community can mark a turning point. "Justice must be impartial, transparent, and respectful of the rights of all people," the organization emphasizes, highlighting that its request to the UN seeks not only to make the irregularities visible but also to press for international oversight to ensure compliance with the rule of law standards.

The association trusts that this action will receive the necessary attention from international bodies, considering the crucial role they play in monitoring human rights globally. "It's not just a legal issue, but an essential principle," ASINFA states, reaffirming its commitment to truth and justice.

The submission of this request is not an isolated event but the result of sustained work by ASINFA, which since its foundation has advocated for human rights in Uruguay.

The organization assures that it will continue to monitor the development of the judicial processes in question and will remain steadfast in its mission to ensure that each complaint is taken seriously.

The statement concludes with a message of unity and determination: "United for truth, justice, and human rights." For ASINFA, this action before the UN represents another step in its fight for a fair and equitable judicial system in Uruguay, a goal that, according to them, transcends borders and requires the support of the international community.

ASINFA has invited those who wish for more information about its request or activities to contact them through their official email: asociacionasinfa@gmail.com. Meanwhile, the organization hopes that UN authorities will respond to their call and that an analysis process on the human rights situation in Uruguay will begin. This case could become an important precedent for the region, highlighting the importance of international oversight in guaranteeing essential rights.

With this action, ASINFA not only focuses on Uruguay but also sends a clear message: the fight for justice and human rights is a collective effort that admits no setbacks.
