Mexico's actions 'aren't enough': Trump calls for more effort to avoid tariffs
Trump says Mexico's effort 'isn't good enough. It's not sustainable, I'm going to change the situation.'
Trump maintains tariff threat against Mexico and demands more security. The president of the U.S., Donald Trump, insists on applying tariffs to Mexico. Now, he demands that the country do more in terms of security.
Before traveling to New Orleans to attend the Super Bowl, Trump gave an interview to Fox News. In it, he mentioned his intention to apply a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico.

Are Mexico and Canada's measures sufficient?
The journalist Bret Baier asked Trump if the actions of Mexico and Canada have been sufficient.
The president acknowledged that, after the agreement, both countries have taken measures to curb the flow of fentanyl and illegal migration. However, he stated that it is still not enough.
"No, it's not good enough. It's not sustainable, and I'm going to change that situation."
Trump also announced that next Monday he will impose a 25% tariff on imports of steel and aluminum from any country.
Trade deficit with Mexico
Regarding the relationship with Mexico, Trump pointed out that the trade deficit remains too high.
"We have a deficit with Mexico of 350 billion dollars! I'm not going to let that happen."
This comes just a week after he agreed with Claudia Sheinbaum to suspend tariffs for a month.

Position of the Mexican government
The Mexican government hopes that this month will be enough to demonstrate its effort against fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration.
However, so far, Mexican authorities have only boasted "important" captures. In reality, no relevant kingpin has fallen. As they say, "they only catch small fry", while violence in the country continues unabated.
Countdown for Mexico
In a month, it will be known if Mexico's measures were sufficient to avoid Trump's tariffs. The leftist government faces a key test under pressure from the United States.
