Outrage Over Assault on Fátima: Thrown From the Third Floor for Being a K-pop Fan

The teenager was thrown from the third floor of her high school by another student: authorities and community demand justice.

Mexico City, February 17, 2025.Fátima Mayte Zavala, a 13-year-old student at Daytime Secondary School No. 236 in Iztapalapa, was brutally thrown from the third floor of her school by a classmate who bullied her due to her musical preferences.

The attack occurred on February 14, 2025 and left the minor with pelvic fractures and other serious injuries. She is currently hospitalized in a delicate condition.

The negligence of school authorities

According to the victim's family, Fátima had been bullied for months by her aggressor. Despite previous complaints, the school authorities completely ignored the case, allowing the bullying to escalate to this brutal attack.

After the attack, the family has reported the lack of support from the school and the Public Education Secretariat (SEP), institutions that have so far tried to downplay what happened.

International reactions and social mobilization

The case has crossed borders. The Embassy of South Korea in Mexico expressed its concern and demanded a thorough investigation to sanction those responsible.

Additionally, the K-pop community in Mexico has expressed its outrage and has called for mobilizations to demand justice for Fátima.

Ongoing investigation and lack of justice

The Attorney General's Office of Mexico City has launched an investigation to clarify the facts and determine responsibilities. However, so far, there have been no decisive sanctions or clear statements from the government of Claudia Sheinbaum.

Meanwhile, Fátima's family is facing a difficult process. They have requested support to cover the medical and legal expenses resulting from the attack, without receiving a response from the authorities.

School violence and the double feminist discourse

This case has caused outrage, but it also raises an uncomfortable question for certain feminist discourses that insist gender violence is unidirectional.

The fact that Fátima's aggressor is another female student dismantles the myth that violence is exclusively perpetrated by men against women. Violence has no gender, and this case demonstrates it irrefutably.

Will real measures be taken?

Civil organizations and human rights advocates have urged authorities to strengthen bullying prevention and response protocols in the country's schools.

School violence, like violence in general, must be addressed without ideological biases or gender prejudices. It's time to demand justice without distorting reality to fit political narratives.
