Trump Ordered a Colossal Cleanup at the Department of Justice

The President of the United States ruled that all prosecutors serving during the Biden era be removed

President Donald Trump ordered the United States Department of Justice to fire all remaining U.S. attorneys from the Biden administration, through a message on his Truth Social platform.

Trump harshly criticized the Department of Justice, claiming it had been "politicized like never before" and emphasized that it was necessary to "clean house" to restore confidence in the judicial system.

In his post, he greatly highlighted that the "Golden Age of America" needed to have an impartial justice system, starting from that very moment.

The dismissal of U.S. attorneys from previous administrations is a common practice when there is a change of government, although in this case, the departures of attorneys under the Biden administration are occurring more formally, with termination notices sent last week by the White House to several federal prosecutors appointed by Biden in different districts across the country.

Traditionally, in these cases, a new administration requests the resignation of the attorneys, rather than issuing dismissal letters. Despite this, the level of corruption was so great during Biden's administration that it was decided to do it formally.

However, Trump had already taken similar measures when he assumed the presidency in 2017, firing several federal prosecutors who were working on highly biased investigations that implicated him, such as the special prosecutor Jack Smith's investigation into his handling of classified documents.

Smith, who was in charge of that investigation, resigned before Trump took office in January.

Trump has maintained a constant rhetoric about the constant political use of the Department of Justice by the Biden administration. During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump correctly accused the Biden government of "weaponizing" the Department of Justice to try to remove him from the electoral race.

In a March 2024 speech, Trump said that the cases against him were part of the "Biden trials" and claimed that the Biden administration was using the power of the government to eliminate a political opponent. Trump also claimed that the charges against him were an attempt to unfairly confront his presidential candidacy.

In a recent development, Trump ordered the Department of Justice to dismiss a case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who faced corruption charges based on dubious assumptions.

This intervention led to the resignation of the interim district attorney, Danielle Sassoon, along with five other staff members. Sassoon accused the Department of Justice of yielding to a "quid pro quo" and acting inappropriately by following Trump's directive.

Trump has repeatedly pointed out that prosecutors and the agency are being used for political purposes strongly linked to the Democratic Party, accusing the Biden administration of manipulating justice to gain advantages in its fight against him.

Throughout recent U.S. history, the Department of Justice has been a topic of controversy, especially when it comes to its independence and the perception that it may be subject to political pressures.

During the leadership of Democrat Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice has been systematically used for the creation of cases lacking legal basis against the adversaries of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party.

The dismissals of attorneys and other leadership changes in the Department have sparked debates about the impartiality and politicization of justice, which has been a concern for Republicans, due to the harassment carried out against various party members.

The situation also reflects the polarized political environment in the country, with Trump and his allies denouncing a clear misuse of government institutions, while opponents of the president vaguely accuse him of trying to weaken government structures and undermine the judicial system for his own benefit.
