Matías Bertolotti Warned About the Rains in the Amba: 'these Scenarios Are Serious'

Matías Bertolotti warned about intense and prolonged rains in the AMBA starting Friday, with a risk of flooding.

The meteorologist Matías Bertolotti warned about a concerning scenario for the AMBA and a large part of the country starting Friday, February 28

A low-pressure system will remain stationary for several days, favoring intense and prolonged rains. In similar situations, historic floods have been recorded.

A TV host shows the weather forecast for Buenos Aires with temperatures of 23.0°C at 8 a.m., 27.0°C at 3 p.m., and 25.0°C at 8 p.m., indicating increasing cloudiness, isolated showers, and mostly cloudy weather.

Why is the weather forecast concerning?

According to Bertolotti, the problem lies in the interaction of a low-pressure system with warm and humid tropical air coming from Brazil. This phenomenon, which would persist for more than six days, would generate constant precipitation and extreme accumulations.

"These scenarios, when seen, are serious," comparing the situation to the floods of 2004 and 2007 that affected the center of the country.

How much rain could fall?

The specialist warned that, if conditions persist, accumulations of up to 800 millimeters in ten days could be recorded. "That is equivalent to what rains in an entire year," he explained.

Bertolotti emphasized that the problem is not just the amount of water, but the continuity of the rains in the same area. "What needs to be avoided is consecutive nighttime rains for three days," he noted.

Can the forecast change?

Although there is still time before the event, the meteorologist clarified that the storm system "is not going to change or move." However, there is room for the rains to be distributed more across different areas and not concentrated in a single point.

Extended forecast for the weekend: Saturday with temperatures of 28°C and 23°C, morning storms expected improving in the afternoon; Sunday with 27°C and 23°C, there will be showers and storms with improvements; Monday with 28°C and 23°C, new storms and isolated showers are expected.

"It's going to rain, make no mistake about it," warned Bertolotti, who recommended closely following the forecast's evolution in the coming days.

What measures can be taken?

In the face of the possibility of intense and prolonged rains, Bertolotti called for prevention. Municipalities, provinces, and emergency agencies must be alert to the weather's evolution and take precautions to avoid flooding.

"It's a first warning, a first call to attention," concluded the meteorologist, reinforcing the importance of monitoring the situation and preparing for possible extreme events.
