Jalil Sealed an Agreement With India to Strengthen Lithium Exploitation

The parties discussed the possibility of increasing the participation of Indian companies in mining projects.

The governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, met with the Minister of Coal and Mines of the Union of India, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, and senior officials from the Ministry of Mines to strengthen collaboration in the mining sector.

During the meeting, investment opportunities and the expansion of lithium exploration in Argentina were analyzed.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

One of the milestones of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL), a PSU under the Indian Ministry of Mines, and the Government of Catamarca. This agreement will facilitate closer cooperation in the exploration and development of critical minerals, strengthening the bilateral bond in the mining field.

Expansion of lithium exploration

The meeting also addressed the progress in lithium exploration by Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL) and Greenko in Catamarca. The parties discussed the possibility of increasing the participation of Indian companies in mining projects in Argentina, with the aim of establishing long-term supply agreements and promoting joint investments in the sector.

Analysis of regulatory frameworks and sustainability

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Government, Justice and Human Rights of Catamarca, Nicolás Rosales Matienzo, and the Secretary of State of the Cabinet, Luz Soria. Together with Indian officials, they analyzed the political and regulatory frameworks to ensure sustainable mining practices and a beneficial partnership for both nations.

Participation of authorities

The meeting was also attended by national deputies Silvana Ginocchio, Sebastián Nóblega, and Dante López Rodríguez, the Argentine ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, and the Indian ambassador to Argentina, Dinesh Bhatia, along with other authorities.

The cooperation between Argentina and India in the mining sector continues to strengthen, with a view to consolidating investments and  establishing strategic agreements in the exploration and exploitation of lithium, a key resource for the energy transition and technological development at a global level.
