Horror in La Plata: a 7-year-old Girl Died After Being Caught in the Middle of a Robbery

A tragedy shook the city of La Plata on Tuesday night, when two underage criminals stole a red Fiat Palio without realizing that a 7-year-old girl was inside. The violent episode occurred at the entrance of the wholesaler El Nene, located at the intersection of 72 and 24 streets, in the Altos de San Lorenzo neighborhood.

According to witnesses, the criminals were lurking in the area minutes before the robbery. They were seen walking and sitting near a greengrocer's at 25 and 72 streets, which raised suspicions among the shopkeepers. Shortly after, when the victim's car stopped in the area, the thieves took the opportunity and stole it.

The woman driving managed to escape, but her daughter, who was wearing a seatbelt, remained inside the vehicle.  Desperate, the mother ran after the car shouting that her daughter was inside.

The victim, identified as Kim Gómez, was dragged by the vehicle for approximately 15 blocks after the robbery. Despite attempts to stop the thieves, the minor suffered fatal injuries and lost her life during the journey. The investigations will determine if the girl tried to escape with the car in motion or if the criminals pushed her, which led to the fatal outcome.

After fleeing, the criminals crashed into a light pole and fell into a ditch, forcing them to abandon the vehicle and escape on foot through a field. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the girl's body under the car.

The case is being investigated by the Juvenile Responsibility Prosecutor's Office No. 3 of La Plata, led by Carmen Viviana Ibarra. The prosecutor ordered the review of the area's security cameras and the arrest of the two minors involved, who will be charged with homicide during a robbery.

In a search operation, which included the use of a helicopter, the officers managed to track down the suspects. Finally, the father of one of the criminals, a 14-year-old, decided to turn him in to the police  and revealed that his son had committed the crime with a friend.
