Aerolineas Argentinas achieves its first surplus in 17 years

Aerolíneas Argentinas communicated to the Ministry of Economy that it won't require extraordinary contributions in 2025.

For the first time since its nationalization in 2008,  Aerolíneas Argentinas closed a fiscal year with an operational surplus. The company reported that in 2024 it achieved a positive balance of  20.2 million dollars, marking a milestone in its history and paving the way for its eventual privatization.

An unprecedented restructuring process

To achieve this result,  the airline implemented a series of adjustment and restructuring measures, including:

  • Reduction of 85 managerial positions.
  • Optimization of the route network, prioritizing the most profitable ones.
  • 13% reduction in staff.

These actions allowed the company to stop relying on state subsidies for its daily operations, which represents a relief for public finances.

Financial independence by 2025

Aerolíneas Argentinas informed the Ministry of Economy that it will not require extraordinary contributions in 2025  and that it will be able to finance itself with its own revenues.

This marks a turning point in the company's management, which for almost two decades operated at a deficit and relied on state funding.

The national government has shown firm intent to move toward the privatization of the airline, under the premise that the state should not manage commercial enterprises. In this regard, it seeks to consolidate an open skies market, where private companies compete without government intervention or subsidies.

According to official sources, this strategy will improve the sector's efficiency, reduce costs for passengers, and encourage new investments in air transport.
